The HL7+ Postmaster is designed to help the user (you) maximize the potential of their HL7 interfaces. It's primarily used to intelligently disseminate HL7 messages to a variety of different types of destinations. Remember that the HL7+ Postmaster can be used 3 different ways:

Different types of HL7 Postmaster Destinations

HL7FolderPicture1

File System Folders. The most common type of destination is simply a folder on the MS Windows file system. HL7 messages are delivered to a folder (selectively if you use matching instructions) where some other process then picks them up (like ANY HL7 compliant program or the UltraPort Listener, Router, SQL Schema Engine, or even another HL7 Postmaster).

RubbishFolderPicture1

Rubbish Bins. Many times the "problem" with an HL7 interface is TMI (too much information). The HL7 producer creates HL7 messages for everything and everybody and for every reason and can't stop themselves. When all that YOU want are certain types of HL7 messages. That's where a Rubbish Bin destination comes in to play. They are a "special" type of destination whose job is to "eat" unwanted HL7 messages to prevent them from moving forward. See Rubbish Bins

Coming in Version 2.5!

HL7 Documents. Use an HL7 Documents Destination to create human readable documents in multiple formats (Browser Independent HTML, PDF, etc) from your HL7 messages.

YourWebService

Your Web Service. Yes we can! Use a Web Service Destination to send HL7 messages directly from an HL7 Postmaster to YOUR web-server over a secure internet connection.

See Web Service Destinations.

YourUltraPortRouter

HL7+ TCP/IP Router. If you've activated HL7+ TCP/IP Router you can use the HL7+ Postmaster to extend it's functionality by having a Postmaster send HL7 messages to a Router running on a different server which then sends the HL7 message out over TCP/IP to its final destination. See HL7+ Router.

YourProxyApplication

HL7+ Postmaster Proxy Application. The HL7+ Postmaster has a FREE software API for programmers using Microsoft Visual Studio™. In only a few lines of code you can give YOUR application the ability to receive HL7 messages sent by Postmaster Proxy Destination. Your application can be running on the same computer or on any computer within the same LAN/WAN as the Postmaster. See Proxy Destinations. For more information about Postmaster proxy applications in general see Proxy Applications.
